Laura was discharged to Rehab America Waverly after a hospital stay for numerous health issues, including COVID pneumonia and Wernicke’s encephalopathy. She was completely dependent on others for everything, having stopped eating after being hospitalized. Palliative care was consulted, and the family was told Laura would require advanced care from that point on. They began making plans to transition her to a long-term facility.
Around four weeks after that consultation, Laura’s husband noticed that she was doing better than she had in the last six months. They began shifting her goals to getting her home to see her grandchildren. The therapy team focused on short-distance walking and transfers. By the time Laura was discharged, she had progressed to being able to complete her daily tasks with supervision. We are so proud of her dedication and glad to see her accomplish her goals.
